Vaccination patterns

Who is fully vaccinated?

Using Massachusetts as a sample, based on a March 2023 statewide parent survey, family vaccination status varies considerably by demographics and politics. In the survey, Democrats, older people, parents with older children, those in higher-income households, and Asian parents report the highest levels of full family vaccination.

Vaccination trends for children

Vaccination rates for older teens have been relatively high but drop strongly by ages 5 to 11 and even further for children ages 6 months to 4 years (including both the primary series and the booster).

In this report, drawing on data posted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as of May 3, 2023, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) reports the most recent information on how many children have been vaccinated for each age group and the number of children vaccinated in the most recent time period, including the 50 states and District of Columbia.

Parent vaccination motivations and concerns

Using our March 2023 statewide parent survey, following are the top reasons parents identified as why they did or didn’t have their children vaccinated.

Parent beliefs of vaccine effectiveness

Again looking at data from our March 2023 statewide parent survey, while most parents overall see the COVID-19 vaccine as very or somewhat effective at preventing severe disease among those who get COVID, there are differences in beliefs of the vaccine’s effectiveness.
